ABOUT THE WINE
Confiscated from the Carmelite monks during the French Revolution, Château Rieussec has passed through distinguished hands before joining Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. Since then, stricter fruit selection, meticulous cellar work and thoughtfully extended barrel-ageing have elevated quality to modern benchmark levels. The 2018 vintage in Sauternes delivered richly botrytised Sémillon-led fruit with excellent purity and lift, yielding a wine that balances opulence with clarity.
TASTING NOTES – 2018 VINTAGE
Shimmering gold. Aromas of apricot, mango and candied pineapple layered with orange blossom, saffron, vanilla pod and light smoke. The palate is silken and lush yet beautifully poised, marrying tangy citrus marmalade and ripe stone fruit with a thread of fresh acidity and discreet spice (ginger, clove). Long, precise finish with a saline-mineral snap that keeps the sweetness in perfect check.
FOOD PAIRING
Superb with foie gras, blue cheeses, and butter-rich desserts (mille-feuille, crème brûlée). For a savoury twist, try with oysters Rockefeller, roast langoustines or seared scallops. Serve well-chilled at 10–12°C.
