ABOUT THE WINE
Roebuck Estates may be a newer name (oldest vines planted in 2006), but it now farms over 200,000 vines across four Sussex sites and is firmly among England’s rising stars. With Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier rooted in varied, free-draining soils, Roebuck crafts classically styled, traditional-method wines of precision and poise. The 2019 release is whole-bunch pressed, with a proportion of base wines fermented in fine French oak and an extended ~36 months on lees to build texture and complexity.
TASTING NOTES
Fragrant and expressive: wild strawberry, white peach and rose petal on the nose. The palate is bright and finely detailed, showing ripe red fruits, honeysuckle and white blossom. A lively seam of acidity, a fine, persistent mousse and a long, elegant finish keep everything in perfect balance.
FOOD PAIRING
A superb aperitif. Lovely with shellfish (oysters, prawns), salmon blinis, sushi, soft cheeses, or a light strawberry dessert.
