ABOUT THE WINE
Château Guiraud is a Premier Grand Cru Classé (1855) in Sauternes, famed for combining richness with finesse and for its pioneering organic approach in the region. From 85 hectares on gravel-sand slopes above the village of Sauternes, the estate crafts botrytised wines with purity and lift. The 2016 vintage saw a long, temperate season with a later, selective onset of noble rot, yielding a wine of clarity, freshness and fine concentration—more poised than opulent.
TASTING NOTES – 2016 VINTAGE
Bright gold. Aromas of apricot, candied citrus (orange peel, lemon zest), pineapple and mango, layered with acacia blossom, saffron, vanilla and gentle spice. The palate is silky yet vibrant, balancing luscious botrytised fruit with lively acidity and a clean, mineral thread. Precise, elegant and long, with a tangy marmalade note on the finish.
FOOD PAIRING
Superb with foie gras (terrine or pan-seared), blue cheeses (Roquefort, Stilton), and shellfish like scallops or langoustines. Also excellent with citrus or stone-fruit desserts. Serve chilled at 10–12°C.
