ABOUT THE WINE
In 1991, Swiss-born Peter Weimer traded corporate life for the rolling hills of Piedmont, establishing Cascina Ebreo. Since their first vintage in 1996, the winery has become known for producing natural, expressive wines with a cult following. The 2009 Torbido is a compelling example of their philosophy — made from 100% Nebbiolo and grown in the Barolo region, it defies convention by eschewing filtration, ageing for 30 months in Austrian oak, and being released only when ready. Its name, Torbido, meaning cloudy, is a reference to the wine’s rejection from the Barolo DOCG for its unfiltered appearance — a badge of honour that symbolises minimal intervention and authenticity.
TASTING NOTES
A wine of depth and intensity, Torbido 2009 opens with aromas of liquorice, coffee, black cherry, and tobacco. On the palate, it’s fresh, structured, and powerful, with layers of rich red fruit, earthy spice, and a long, savoury finish defined by a signature liquorice note.
