2020 Domaine Nudant, Ladoix Rouge
Regular price £39.10 Save £-39.10ABOUT THE WINE
Winemakers in Burgundy since 1453, the current generation of the Nudant family manages some 16 hectares of small parcels dotted throughout the Cote d’Or. Vineyard work is all carried out by hand, in the spirit of minimal intervention. The vines for this Bourgogne are situated in the village of Ladoix-Serrigny.
TASTING NOTES
An underrated gem of a village in the Cote de Beaune, Ladoix is famed for providing a stunning balance of tart red fruits and riper black fruits, a rarity for reasonably priced elegant red Burgundies. The first whiff of cranberries, raspberries and heirloom strawberries is captivating immediately. What comes next is the elegant savouriness of sage, rosemary and sautéed chestnut mushrooms. The light, but velvety tannins linger on the long finish.
FOOD PAIRING
Confit quail legs with roasted butternut squash, and sage butter gnocchi.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
An off-piste appellation which offers excellent value from some very impressive vineyard sites.
Montanaro, Grappa di Barolo
Regular price £39.90 Save £-39.90The forerunner of the modern distillery was Francesco Trussoni, an alembic master from Gallo d'Alba. Modern day pot stills are considered descendants of the alembic apparatus and it was Francesco who conceived of the idea to create Grappa di Barolo, the first single varietal Grappa in history. In 1922 the company was taken over by Mario Montanaro, his wife Angela Trussoni and their son Guiseppe. Together they perfected the art of producing the finest grape spirit by adopting steam distillation. At the end of 2000 Guiseppe, aged nearly 80 and without direct heirs, decided to sell the distillery to a group of 'Albese' businessmen. Under their stewardship Montanaro continues this exceptional tradition and retains the acknowledged reputation of producing the very highest quality regional products.
TASTING NOTES
Made only from selected pure Nebbiolo da Barolo grape marcs this is an exceptional example of a Northern Italian classic, one to be savoured with a simple espresso, some salted pistachios or perhaps a rich chocolate and hazelnut gelato.
Maxime, Trijol VS Cognac
Regular price £40.00 Save £-40.00Based in Saint-Martial-sur-Né in the Cognac heartland since 1859, Maxime Trijol is a 6th generation Cognac house. They only distil spirits made from wines that are sourced from their own vineyards. The strong tradition and history ensure that their production method is flawless and proven. A classic producer reflecting the essence of what Cognac is.
TASTING NOTES
Light and summery for Cognac. Best meant for easy sipping on a warm summer's evening or for cocktails. Notes of flowers, citrus, and tropical fruit make this a distinctly easy-drinking tipple.
FOOD PAIRING
Pair with lighter and fruiter cigars and white chocolate-based desserts.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
This cognac is masterfully blended from a wide array of different aged brandies to make a deliciously light and easy-drinking Cognac.
2015 Chateau Potensac
Regular price £40.45 Save £-40.45Chateau Potensac is named for its location on top of the Potensac plateau. Owned by the Delon Family the estate is planted with an unusually high proportion of Merlot for the area, the aim being to produce a softer, more approachable wine. The wine is made by the same team as Leoville Las Cases, and aged for 14-16 months in old French oak barrels previously used for the Clos du Marquis.
TASTING NOTES
Earthy, structured wine, lifted by cassis fruit. Loam, wet leaves and tobacco flavours mingle with red fruit on the palate. Still very youthful.
FOOD PAIRING
Robust dishes; winter stews and game.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Excellent value
2014 Conti di San Bonifacio, Docet
Regular price £41.30 Save £-41.30ABOUT THE DOCET WINE

Ideal with lamb or game, barbecued or roasted. Excellent with stew too.
FRIARWOOD SAYS

2013 Cave de Ribeauville, Le Clos du Zahnacker
Regular price £41.60 Save £-41.60The Clos du Zahnacker has been the exclusive property of la Cave de Ribeauvillé since 1935, and is located in the heart of the Grand Cru Osterberg vineyard. Documents trace its origin to the 8th century; it bears the name of one of its first owners, a knight and monk, Martin Zahn, and is believed to have been a favoured wine of King Louis XIV. Today, the traditional grape varietals are still maintained, with Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer grown on the same small plot of land. The grapes are then pressed and vinified together, producing exceptional wines of great character and excellent ageing potential.
TASTING NOTES
Light golden colour. The nose is powerful, intense and complex, mixing the petrol notes of the Riesling, the smokiness of the Pinot Gris and the rose, acacia and spicy aromas of the Gewürztraminer. The mouth is full and well-structured with an explosion of citrus, peach and spices. The finish is long and very rich, yet dry. An exceptional wine for an exceptional terroir.
FOOD PAIRING
Perfect with sole, veal or roasted goose.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
A superb, quintessential wine of Alsace, nuanced and beautifully balanced - a singular experience, not to be missed.
2022 Domaines Ott Clos Mireille
Regular price £41.80 Save £-41.80In 1896 Marcel Ott, a graduate in agronomic engineering from Alsace, purchased several estates in Provence. The land was fallow after the ravages of phylloxera had destroyed the vineyards, but many years and multiple generations later, his descendants run three estates in the region: Château de Selle, Clos Mireille and Château Romassan, each with its own particular character. The distinctive bottle-shape of Domaines Ott* was designed in 1930 by René Ott. In 2004, Domaines Ott* was purchased by the Louis Roederer Champagne house, although management of the estates remains in the hands of the Ott family.
TASTING NOTES
Delicate salmon-pink. White fruits and a hint of strawberry, with a bright mineral character and a touch of red grapefruit. Subtle and persistent, of a quality consistent with its reputation as the finest Provençal rosé.
FOOD PAIRING
An aperitif all on its own, but also splendid with light dishes from charcuterie to anchovies. Try it with a shrimp cocktail.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Clos Mireille, a very old property built in the 1700s by Benedictine monks, overlooking the Mediterranean at La Londe les Maures, was purchased in 1930 by the family, and converted from mixed agriculture to vineyards. Rocky soils and the proximity of the ocean give the wines of Clos Mireille their own, unique character. The * is indeed part of the company’s name, for reasons of copyright.

2015 Chateau Grand Corbin
Regular price £42.40 Save £-42.40Chateau Grand Corbin is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Emilion, dating back to the 15th century. The beautiful chateau was constructed in the 1800s. In the late 1990s, Anabelle Cruse and her sisters purchased the shares of Chateau Grand Corbin from the other family shareholders and took over complete ownership of the 15.5-hectare estate. In December 2010, the estate was purchased by the Groupe SMABTP, who combined it in 2012 with the vineyards of Chateau Haut Corbin and Chateau Le Jurat to form a new 24.5-hectare estate under the Grand Corbin name.
TASTING NOTES
A more opulent vintage, this time the Corbin shows intensity and concentration of red and dark fruits with the signature ripe plum and bramble berries, but the savoury herbs, as well as the leather notes, are still present making the wine's lasting finish a wonderfully complex one.
FOOD PAIRING
Dry-aged beef fillet Wellington with porcini duxelles, braised beef cheek with harissa.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
A beautiful wine, the first vintage produced under the new owners, with Hubert de Bouard (owner of Chateau Angelus) as Consultant Oenologist.

Sequoia Grove is located in the gem of the famed Napa Valley, in what’s known as the Rutherford Bench. The Bench is a very unique geological formation, as it is consisted of a special composition of soils and rocks, and is considered one of the most diverse terroirs in the world. No malolactic fermentation took place to maintain the freshness of the wine and avoid any overpowering oiliness on the palate.
