White Wine
Semillion and Sauvignon Blanc
13% ABV
Sweet and Candied
France, Bordeaux, Sauternes
A Premier Cru Classé of 1855, Château Suduiraut sits adjacent to Yquem in the heart of Sauternes, its gravelly–sandy soils ideal for Sémillon (with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc) and the development of noble rot. The 2010 vintage brought a long, even season and beautifully selective botrytis, delivering a wine of impressive purity, aromatic intensity and finesse.
Glowing deep gold. A soaring nose of apricot, candied citrus, pineapple and mango, woven with acacia honey, saffron, vanilla and toasted almond. The palate is silken and opulent yet poised, where luscious botrytised fruit is balanced by brisk, mouth-watering acidity and a fine saline–mineral thread. Long, precise finish with notes of orange marmalade and spice.
Classic with foie gras (terrine or pan-seared) and blue cheeses; superb alongside scallops, langoustines or roast duck with an orange glaze. For dessert, think mille-feuille, crème brûlée or an apricot tart. Serve well-chilled at 10–12°C.
A benchmark 2010 Sauternes – generous, layered and impeccably balanced. Delicious now, with the structure to age 20+ years as saffron, nut and tea-leaf complexities unfurl.
