ABOUT THE WINE
A micro-cuvée from a tiny 1.6-hectare parcel of Merlot on the Pomerol plateau, close to Vieux Château Certan and Le Pin. 2014 was the first vintage fully micro-vinified in the estate’s new cellar, allowing precision small-lot fermentations before élevage of around 15 months in predominantly new French oak (Saury). The result is a deeply refined, site-expressive Pomerol at 13.5% ABV, marrying concentration with freshness.
TASTING NOTES
Lifted violet and peony tones meet cassis, blueberry and raspberry coulis, layered with clove, cedar and a touch of leather/truffle as it unfurls in the glass. Medium to full-bodied with satin-textured tannins and a fine bead of acidity; the palate is plush yet poised, finishing long, sumptuous and subtly mineral.
FOOD PAIRING
Roast lamb with rosemary, beef fillet, duck breast with cherries, truffle risotto or porcini tagliatelle; finishes beautifully with aged Comté or Mimolette.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
A Pomerol of polish and precision rather than sheer weight – seductive now after a brief decant, with plenty in reserve. Drink now–2036+; peak enjoyment 2026–2032.
