ABOUT THE WINE
The 2020 Family Vintage Merlot from Tres Palacios represents the pinnacle of this acclaimed Chilean estate’s production. A step above the Gran Reserva line, the Family Vintage series is crafted from the best vineyard parcels and aged with extra care to express true varietal character and regional identity.
Founded in 1996 by Don Patricio Palacios and Maria Inés Covarrubias, Tres Palacios is a family-run winery nestled in the Cholqui sector of the Maipo Valley — a unique, crater-like terroir in Chile’s Central Valley. The vineyards benefit from cool coastal influences and slow, even ripening, which allow for deep flavour development.
This premium Chilean Merlot is aged for 10 months in oak barrels, followed by 7 months in bottle before release — offering structure, complexity, and ageing potential.
TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby red with violet hues, this Merlot opens with expressive aromas of black pepper, cloves, and mocha, layered over ripe black fruit and toasted coffee. On the palate, it’s velvety, rounded, and richly textured, with a long, spicy finish and perfectly integrated oak. A complex, balanced wine with the potential to age gracefully for up to 7 years.
FOOD PAIRING
A superb partner for pasta in tomato-based sauces, semi-ripe cheeses, chicken stews, and hearty beef casseroles. Its spice and structure also make it a great pairing for mushroom dishes or lamb tagine.
