Red Wine
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot
14.5% ABV
Smooth and Rich
France, Bordeaux, Saint-Julien
A pillar of Saint-Julien since the 18th century, Château Talbot spans 102 hectares and has been owned by the Cordier (now Bignon-Cordier) family since 1917. The 2018 vintage marks a new chapter under Technical Director Jean-Michel Laporte and was bottled in a special dark, engraved centenary bottle. The blend is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot (c. 14.5% ABV), matured around 15–16 months in French oak (≈60% new) to amplify mid-palate richness while retaining Talbot’s classical poise.
Deep purple-black. Aromas of cassis, blackberry and plum mingle with cedar, tobacco leaf, graphite and dark chocolate. The palate is medium to full-bodied, sleek and layered, with polished tannins, a lively line of acidity and a long, plush finish touched by licorice, spice and violets. Youthful energy now; impressive concentration and finesse.
Roast lamb with rosemary, grilled rib-eye, venison, beef daube, or mushroom-truffle dishes. Hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Cheddar underscore the wine’s savoury depth.
A confident, modern Talbot—opulent yet controlled—and one of the estate’s standout recent releases. Critics concur (JS 96, JD 93+, Galloni 93, Anson 93, Neal Martin 92, LPB 91+). Drink 2024–2043; decant 1–2 hours for immediate charm.
