Vega Sicilia Único is the flagship wine from Bodegas Vega Sicilia, widely regarded as Spain’s most iconic winery, located in the esteemed Ribera del Duero region. Crafted primarily from Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Único embodies the ultimate expression of Spanish winemaking. With an extended aging process that spans nearly a decade in oak barrels and bottle, this wine develops a complexity and finesse that sets it apart as one of the world’s great wines. The 2012 vintage, marked by warm growing conditions, has resulted in a wine of extraordinary depth, structure, and longevity.
TASTING NOTES
The Único displays an intense, deep garnet color, with an inviting bouquet of blackcurrants, dark plums, and black cherries, interwoven with layers of cedar, tobacco, graphite, and a subtle hint of truffle. On the palate, it is remarkably full-bodied and balanced, with velvety tannins that seamlessly integrate with vibrant acidity. The wine offers complex flavors of ripe dark fruits, licorice, earthy spices, and a touch of mineral elegance. The finish is exceptionally long and layered, with echoes of spice, leather, and a refined smokiness that lingers, promising great aging potential. This vintage can be enjoyed now with decanting but will continue to evolve beautifully for another 30-40 years.
