ABOUT THE WINE
Saxenburg Wine Estate, located in the heart of Stellenbosch’s Polkadraai Hills, is one of South Africa’s most distinctive wine producers. Originally established in 1693, the modern chapter of the estate began in 1989 when Adrian and Birgit Bührer relocated from Switzerland to breathe new life into the estate. Now led by second-generation custodians Fiona and Vincent Bührer, Saxenburg is focused on highlighting the exceptional terroir of Polkadraai Hills — a region known for producing premium, expressive wines. This Private Collection Chardonnay 2021 is a fine example of their commitment to quality and site-driven winemaking.
TASTING NOTES
Crafted from select sandstone and granite vineyard parcels, this Stellenbosch Chardonnay is a seamless balance of oak texture and natural freshness. The nose reveals layers of lemon zest, green apple, toasted nuts, fresh bread, and a hint of beeswax. On the palate, it’s elegant and complex, with a crisp backbone of acidity and a lingering, mineral-driven finish.
FOOD PAIRING
An excellent match for carbonara pasta, baked white fish, or chicken Madeira. Its texture and vibrancy also complement dishes with cream or nutty sauces.
