ABOUT THE WINE
Founded in 1638, Kopke is the oldest Port house and a benchmark for aged tawny and Colheita. This 1987 Single-Harvest (Colheita) Tawny Port was matured in cask for decades in the Douro and released from Kopke’s own cellars in 2021. Drawn from a single vintage and aged oxidatively in wood, it marries depth, finesse and remarkable freshness.
TASTING NOTES
Bright tawny-garnet with a golden rim. Complex aromas of dried fig, date and apricot weave with toffee, caramel and a touch of almond and hazelnut, lifted by spice and a saline snap. Sweet yet beautifully balanced on the palate, showing walnut praline, toffee and red-fruit brittle (candy floss), cut by candied orange peel and vibrant acidity. Long, elegant finish with lingering caramel and nutty tones.
FOOD PAIRING
Superb with caramel-based desserts (crème brûlée, salted-caramel tart), pastel de nata, sticky toffee pudding, or a board of blue and hard cheeses. Also excellent with salted nuts. Serve lightly chilled (12–14°C).
