Madame Veuve Point is the unique story of a woman winemaker whose wines won the Grand Prize at the 1904 Saint Louis World Fair, and have continued making excellent Burgundy wines ever since. Now, Géraldine Point is the latest generation of the family to pick up the torch and continue a hundred year old wine making tradition.
Graced by a Château which has been in the same family for six centuries, a church with an elegant steeple, beautiful homes and parks, Rully (pronounced Ruilly) is a very old wine making village. 2019 Madame Veuve Point, Rully Blanc
Regular price £34.20 Save £-34.20ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Madame Veuve Point is the unique story of a woman winemaker whose wines won the Grand Prize at the 1904 Saint Louis World Fair, and have continued making excellent Burgundy wines ever since. Now, Géraldine Point is the latest generation of the family to pick up the torch and continue a hundred year old wine making tradition.
Graced by a château which has been in the same family for six centuries, a church with an elegant steeple, beautiful homes and parks, Rully (pronounced Ruilly) is a very old village. This appellation produces mostly white whines. The white Chardonnay vine is able to express itself perfectly in these climates with rocky limestone and clay soils. The slopes are sheltered by a part of the mountain of la Folie and have an ideal Southeastern exposure. Its high altitude (230 to 300 meters) forces the winemakers to be more patient in awaiting the harvest than in nearby Côte de Beaune.
TASTING NOTES
This Rully Blanc has a golden color with green highlights in the glass. It has a fine nose with notes of “flowering shrubs” such as acacia, hawthorn and honeysuckle along with notes of fruits like lemon and white peaches. It has a fruity palate, with a lively, round flavor which is full-bodied and very slightly woody. In aging, its color will evolve toward buttercup and notes of honey, quince and dried fruit will be revealed.
FOOD PAIRING
With its beautiful fullness in the mouth, this wine is the ideal with tender-fleshed delicacies such as pan-fried river fish, sea fish in a white sauce or warm shellfish. It is an ideal accompaniment to hard cheeses such as Comté, with which it shares its fruitiness. It will elevate poultry in cream sauces. It can also be drunk as an aperitif.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
To really amplify its aromatic elegance, try decanting before serving!

Now, Géraldine Point is the latest generation of the family to pick up the torch and continue a hundred year old wine making tradition.
A dozen kilometers south from Dijon, at the foot of the Lavaux valley, Gevrey-Chambertin spreads its vineyards toward Côtes de Nuits over nearly 140 hectares. The canons of Langres have long watched over these vines, as proof of how far this nectar plunges its roots into the entire history of Burgundy wine. These red wines from Madame Veuve Point are entirely made from a single pinot noir variety, also called “pino noirien” in Burgundy.

2010 Chateau Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
Regular price £301.70 Save £-301.70ABOUT THE WINE
Pichon Lalande earned its name when Therse, the daughter of the founder received the estate as a dowry when she married Jacques de Pichon Longueville. During the 18th century the wine-growing influence at Pichon Lalande was definitely feminine. Perhaps that explains part of the wines sensuous qualities. Pichon Lalande was essentially managed by three women: Therese de Rauzan, Germaine de Lajus and Marie Branda de Terrefort. Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville succeeded his mother taking over Pichon Lalande when he was only 19. What happened next changed the landscape of the Medoc forever. On the eve of his death in 1850, he divided the property between his five children. In modern times May-Eliane de Lencquesaing, daughter of Edouard Miailhe became the new owner and general manager of Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande in 1978. She made numerous investments and improvements at Pichon Lalande. She later sold Pichon Lalande to the owners of Roederer Champagne in January 2007. Once the purchase for Chateau Pichon Lalande was concluded, in 2008, a complete renovation of the estate took place.

The nose offers a bouquet of aromas, mixing blackcurrant, cinnamon, vanilla and violet. On the palate the tannins appear mature and melted, revealing a strong affirmed structure a surprising suppleness and perfect harmony with long persistency.

The first references to the estate date back to the beginning of the 17th century – although the Manor House was practically in ruins just over 50 years ago when the property was bought by Albano Castro Sousa. He transformed it into one of the most respected producers of Vinho Verde and the Solar das Bouças brand quickly became synonymous with quality. In recent years the estate has been under the stewardship of Quinta do Noval and one family member – Fernando Van Zeller – undertook a new phase of restoration which encompassed both the Manor and estate houses as well as the planting of new vines (including new varietals). Today Solar das Bouças belongs to an investment company led by António Ressurreiçáo and this ‘purchase of passion’ has seen them continue to develop the potential of the estate. Produced and bottled on the estate the Vinho Verde Solar das Bouças uses - exclusively - grapes grown on the property.
