2020 Chateau de Chamirey, Mercurey White
Regular price £35.80 Save £-35.80A 95-hectare estate (37-hectares of vineyard) covering some of the finest terroirs in Mercurey. The château, overlooking the village of Chamirey, was built in the early 18th Century, and saw a succession of owners before coming into the Devillard family through marriage. The estate began bottling its own wines in 1934, making it a forerunner in the region.
TASTING NOTES
Peach and white fruit aromas, with creamy oak notes and a hint of wood-spice. The palate is crisp, with stone-fruit, delicate floral character and fresh, bright acidity.
FOOD PAIRING
Ideal with fish.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Sourced from six different plots in the region; aged in lightly toasted French oak, 15% new, for 11 months.
2022 Domaine des Trois Cellier, Chateauneuf du Pape blanc "Cuvee Insolente"
Regular price £35.30 Save £-35.30In 2007 Marceau (Marc) Cellier decided to retire and hand over his vineyards to his three children (Ludovic, Julien and Benoit) and Nathalie (Ludovic's wife). They are the 8th generation of the Cellier family to work the vine and to make top class Rhone wines. Domaine les 3 Cellier was thus born on August 1st, 2007, with the breakup of Domaine Saint Benoit. The Cellier family retained 13.4 hectares of wines, all within the Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
TASTING NOTES
Production is very low, less than 100 cases per vintage. This wine has a pale yellow colour tinted with a hint of green. The distinctive personality of Roussanne gives a powerful and complex wine, harmoniously balanced, with aromas of flowers and spice - paprika and fenugreek. The mouth is powerful but pleasant with a final soft and unctuous, yet dry, finish. This wine can be kept in a good cellar for 8 to 10 years.
FOOD PAIRING
Perfect with scallops or ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and honey. It should be drunk at a temperature between 12° to 14° C - a tad less cold than other white wines.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Less well-known than the red wines from this appellation, the whites are something of a hidden gem; full-bodied and wonderfully complex, this is a prime example of how utterly beautiful they can be.
2019 Capanna, Moscadello di Montalcino Late Harvest
Regular price £35.00 Save £-35.002020 Domaine Fillon, Chablis 1er Cru “Les Beauregards”
Regular price £34.30 Save £-34.30Domaine Fillon & Fils is a family-run business, now run by the fourth generation. Family-owned and run since the early 20th century, the winery focuses on quality by owning its own parcels in prime locations around Chablis. Being a deeply rooted family in the area, they produce a wide range of wines.
TASTING NOTES
Made from 35-year-old vines, grown on Chablis’ quintessential Kimmeridgian soils, this 1er Cru is brilliant value. Made by maturing the wine on its fine lees for several months, this Chablis offers the key freshness one expects from a Chablis, with the fruit ripeness of the 1er Cru sight, and the subtle richness of the lees ageing. Notes of green apple skin, preserved lemon, almond skin, kaffir lime, key lime, candied sour pineapple and yoghurt. A sublime example of an opulent Chablis.
FOOD PAIRING
Seared wild scallops with white wine, raw Atlantic oysters with shallot mignonette and goat's cheese salad with anchovies.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
Domaine Fillon & Fils is so old in Chablis, that they even have some planting of Pinot Noir, which is extremely rare in this part of France.
2019 Madame Veuve Point, Rully Blanc
Regular price £34.20 Save £-34.20ABOUT THE PRODUCER
Madame Veuve Point is the unique story of a woman winemaker whose wines won the Grand Prize at the 1904 Saint Louis World Fair, and have continued making excellent Burgundy wines ever since. Now, Géraldine Point is the latest generation of the family to pick up the torch and continue a hundred year old wine making tradition.
Graced by a château which has been in the same family for six centuries, a church with an elegant steeple, beautiful homes and parks, Rully (pronounced Ruilly) is a very old village. This appellation produces mostly white whines. The white Chardonnay vine is able to express itself perfectly in these climates with rocky limestone and clay soils. The slopes are sheltered by a part of the mountain of la Folie and have an ideal Southeastern exposure. Its high altitude (230 to 300 meters) forces the winemakers to be more patient in awaiting the harvest than in nearby Côte de Beaune.
TASTING NOTES
This Rully Blanc has a golden color with green highlights in the glass. It has a fine nose with notes of “flowering shrubs” such as acacia, hawthorn and honeysuckle along with notes of fruits like lemon and white peaches. It has a fruity palate, with a lively, round flavor which is full-bodied and very slightly woody. In aging, its color will evolve toward buttercup and notes of honey, quince and dried fruit will be revealed.
FOOD PAIRING
With its beautiful fullness in the mouth, this wine is the ideal with tender-fleshed delicacies such as pan-fried river fish, sea fish in a white sauce or warm shellfish. It is an ideal accompaniment to hard cheeses such as Comté, with which it shares its fruitiness. It will elevate poultry in cream sauces. It can also be drunk as an aperitif.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
To really amplify its aromatic elegance, try decanting before serving!
2018 Ribeauville, Riesling Grand Cru 'Osterberg'
Regular price £33.80 Save £-33.80Created in 1895 by wine-growers from the town of Ribeauvillé, the Cave de Ribeauvillé - the oldest such cooperative in France - is something of a pioneer in Alsace. Its members own portions of some of the finest vineyards in the region, and their plots contribute to their exceptional range of wines. The Grand Cru Osterberg envelopes the northern edge of the village of Ribeauvillé, with south-southeast-facing slopes rising to 350m. Riesling dominates the vineyard, but other noble Alsace grapes (Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer) are also included.
TASTING NOTES
Citrusy nose with notes of white peach and pear evolving towards flinty, gunpowder aromas. Very well balanced with a fresh, lively acidity which brings exceptional length to the wine. Expressive, elegant and complex.
FOOD PAIRING
Seafood; marinated salmon, sushi and scallops. Also excellent with white sauces and pasta.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
The Cave de Ribeauvillé maintains a quality charter with its growers to ensure low yields and hand-picked grapes, giving winemaker Evelyne Dondelinger only the very finest fruit to work with.

This Chablis turns heads with its stunning orchard fruit of pears, apples and the touch of the unusual white nectarine. The freshness of green lemon zest and lemongrass still refreshes the palate, but the weight of the fruit shows the quality of the vineyard of Vosgros. Truly a first growth Chablis.

Regular price £27.50 Save £-27.50ABOUT THE WINE
Established in 1971 by Joe Founder, St. Francis has reflected the finest mountain and valley vineyards in and around Sonoma County for over 50 years.
Today, the vineyards of St. Francis are farmed per Certified Sustainable standards. Their estate vineyards present a stunning diversity as they are scattered around Sonoma Valley and the famous Russian River Valley, each with diverse compositions of limestone, loam, clay and black & red volcanic soils. They also buy fruit from some of the oldest vineyards in the region, farming beautifully gnarly old vine Zinfandel, by nurturing their long-standing relationships for decades.
TASTING NOTES
Fruit for Chardonnay is sourced from the coolest vineyards where maritime Pacific mist and winds help retain the fresh acidity of the fruit. Adding to complexity with sweetcorn, yoghurt and allspice notes, with a silky mouthfeel, leading into a lingering decadent finish.
