ABOUT THE WHISKY
Mackmyra began as an idea formed by 8 friends on a skiing trip in 1998 - each had brought a bottle of malt whisky to share, and the topic of conversation turned to how whisky is made, and why there wasn't a Swedish one... From deep beneath a Swedish mountain their latest expression Stjarnrok arises into the heavens. Nurtured from their handcrafted smoky recipe; and matured into its true form in a shelter of Oloroso, ex-Bourbon and American Oak casks, building its body, complexity and gentle sweetness. Subterranean, it develops these deep, dark red, ripe notes through Spanish Oloroso in combination with the native cloudberry of surrounding ancient woodland.
On the nose you'll find smoke, spiciness and peat with notes of juniper. Fruity aromas present a complex blend of raisins, nuts, dried fruit, toasted bread, vanilla fudge, tobacco leaves, sandalwood, cedar and ginger. The palate is smoky, fruity and spicy with peat and juniper notes together with minerals, herbs, vanilla fudge, raisins, orange peel, dark chocolate and dried fruits. Further on there is spiciness from toasted oak casks, sandal & cedarwood, anise, white pepper and ginger. The aftertaste - wrapped in a soft oakiness and lightly oily texture - is clear smoke in symbiosis with exotic dried fruit.
If you - or indeed a friend - is a fan of the richly smoky styles from Islay but are searching for an experience a little more unusual but just as enticing then this is absolutely the expression for you.
