ABOUT THE WHISKY
Founded in 1798 Blair Athol distillery stands at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands in the picturesque central Perthshire town of Pitlochry. Although the town itself sits on the banks of the river Tay, Blair Athol's ancient source of water is the Allt Dour which flows through the grounds from the slopes of Ben Vrackie and unquestionably contributes to the smooth character and mellow quality of the whisky. Originally named Aldour after the burn which supplies it the name was changed to Blair Athol (after a village 7 miles to the North) in 1825 - no doubt as a sweetener to the Duke of Athol who owned the land. During its long history the distillery has changed hands on numerous occasions, experiencing periods of both closure and renovation and expansion. After being purchased by Perth based blenders Arthur Bell & Sons in the '30s by the 1970s Bell's Whisky was being built into the UK's top-selling blended Scotch and as a result Blair Athol production was doubled in capacity. To the present day the nutty, spicy character of the malt is still in high demand as a main component of the Bell's blend.

TASTING NOTES
The intriguing and enticing nose of stewed apples and pears; vanilla; icing sugar and baked sesame pastries mingling with hints of blackberry and raspberry is both mellow and deep-toned. To taste the strong, fruity flavours of apple crumble and vanilla custard are balanced with tart pear drop notes and depth from cloves and cinammon. Finally a bright, smooth and lingering finish of green apples, oat cakes and rich vanilla custard completes the delightful experience.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
A UK exclusive with only 1007 bottles produced the label is inspired by 'The Seven Stars' pub in Derby, bought by James Eadie in 1894. An absolute highlight of the new 2022 releases.
