ABOUT THE WINE
Cascina Ebreo, nestled in the hills of Piedmont, Italy, has earned cult status for its uncompromising, minimal-intervention wines. Founded in 1991 by Peter Weimer, who left his corporate life in Switzerland to pursue winemaking, the estate released its first vintage in 1996. The 2021 Alea is a dry, skin-contact white wine made from Malvasia Moscata grapes — a rare and bold expression that blends natural winemaking practices with aromatic finesse. Organic farming, spontaneous fermentation, and low sulphur use result in a wine of purity and personality.
TASTING NOTES
Brilliant golden straw yellow in colour, Alea reveals a richly aromatic nose of honeysuckle, lychee, stone fruit, and aniseed. The skin-contact fermentation, similar to red wine vinification, adds texture and depth. On the palate, expect mouth-watering saline minerality, juicy notes of loquat, Valencia orange, and a long, tangy finish. A bold, expressive take — with the character of a refined orange wine.
FOOD PAIRING
Ideal with oily fish like smoked mackerel with dill mayo or grilled sardines with roasted tomato, garlic, and thyme. Also excellent with spiced vegetarian dishes and hard cheeses.
