ABOUT THE WINE
Telish winery was built in the late 1960's but was a state-owned monopoly until 1999, when it was transferred into the ownership of Jair Agopian. He immediately set about replanting vineyards and improving the winemaking equipment, and brought in the famed consultant-winemaker, Michel Rolland, transforming Telish Winery into a leading light in the resurgent Bulgarian wine industry. The wine is named after the ancient Byzantine fortress, the Castra Rubra (Red Fort), the ruins of which are located near the village of Kolarovo.

TASTING NOTES
Beautiful, intense dark red in colour, with soft garnet nuances. Multi-layered aromas of ripe blackberries, mocha, cassis, vanilla, eucalyptus, leather and sweet spice. Lavish, full-bodied palate with excellent tannic structure and powerful fruit. The finish is long and well-balanced. Excellent value.

FOOD PAIRING
Requires rich, flavoursome dishes, preferably lamb or beef.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
A superbly well-crafted wine, satisfying and reliable - a revelation for any who might have doubted the potential of Bulgarian vineyards.
