ABOUT THE WINE
In 1822 the vineyards of Chateau Grand-Poujeaux were broken up to form four different estates, including what would become Château Chasse-Spleen. The origins of the name have been traced to both Byron and Baudelaire, but are lost to time and speculation. The estate was sold on the eve of World War 1 to a German family, but confiscated upon the outbreak of war as an enemy property and sold at auction in 1922. In 1976, the modern owners of the estate purchased the property, which then consisted of 40 hectares of vines. This has since been doubled, and the winemaking facilities have seen significant improvement over the years. Thanks to their efforts, and those of consultant Emile Peynaud, the estate is regarded as one of the finest unclassified properties in Bordeaux.

TASTING NOTES
A classic; medium-bodied, with firm tannins, spicy blackberry fruit and dusty oak and earth on the finish. Pleasingly forceful on the palate.

FOOD PAIRING
An excellent wine for food as beef steaks or stews, barbecued pork or lamb dishes would all pair beautifully.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
Drinking excellently from 2015 onwards, this will continue to develop up to 2028.
