ABOUT THE WINE
Château Pape Clément has a long and interesting history in Bordeaux - the first recorded grape harvest took place in 1252! The château is named after the property's founder, Pope Clément V, one of the Avignon Popes during a schism in the Catholic Church in the 1300s. Today the vineyard is owned by Bernard Magrez, under whose direction the estate has flourished. 20 hectares of vines, neighbour to Haut Brion, although with a slightly cooler microclimate. 2.5 hectares are planted to white grapes.

TASTING NOTES
No malolactic fermentation, whole-cluster fermentation in 100% new French oak barrels, aged on the lees for 12 months in 100% new French oak. Subtle, yet very rich, with lemon peel, cooked apple, sliced fennel and tropical fruit aromas. Intense flavours of cream, toasted coconut, nectarine and honey. A complex, lively wine that goes on and on. An opulent style, capable of ageing yet drinking beautifully.

FOOD PAIRING
King prawns, egg and Chinese pork-soup dumplings. Soft, flavoursome cheeses.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
375 cases made; a rare wine and extraordinarily special.
