Classified as a 3eme Cru Classe. The first reference to Chateau Giscours making wine dates back to 1552, it was confiscated during the French revolution and sold to two Americans. Chateau Giscours name cannot be dissociated with Pierre Skawinski having worked there for over 50 years as a manager. During his time at Giscours he came up with the idea that everything in the cellar should be moved by gravity. While most Chateaux use gravity today in their cellar, this was a revolutionary development at the time. Chateau Giscours has over 100 hectares planted in the Margaux appellation. Vinification takes place in a mixture of stainless steel vats and concrete tanks. The wine is aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak.

After a cold and wet winter, the new growing season started rather well with a hot dry and sunny June and July. And then things change for the worse with a cool and wet August. By the time harvest was about to start both right and left bank were affected by rain on a daily basis. Only Pomerol was saved as they always start harvesting ahead of the rest.
