ABOUT THE WINE
Joseph Drouhin is a family-owned domaine and négociant, one of the largest and most highly regarded Burgundy houses. Knowledge of the land combined with attention to detail in the vineyard results in very fine Burgundy wines which reflect their origin. The section of Corton-Charlemagne controlled by the Drouhin family faces east; 12 months in oak (25% new) balances the natural power of the site. Biodynamic cultivation, with massale selection of new vine-stocks.
Bright golden in colour, with ripe aromas of mature fruit, with notes of honey and roasted hazelnut. A full-bodied vintage for Corton-Charlemagne, expansive on the palate, with superb balance and complexity. Ready to drink from 2015; impressive ageing potential.
Gorgeous with roast chicken, goose or turkey, but also very attractive with cold-cut meats or tuna pâté.
Corton-Charlemagne is the only vineyard in Burgundy bearing the name of two emperors: 'Corton', from the Gallo-Roman Curtis d'Othon (a German emperor), and Emperor Charlemagne (Carolus Magnus) who was, according to legend, the owner of the vineyard for a time.
