ABOUT THE WINE
Confiscated from the Carmelite monks during the French Revolution, Château Rieussec saw a series of owners over the subsequent centuries until it was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. Rigorous grape-selection, longer barrel-ageing and meticulous quality-control enhanced the reputation and prestige of the estate.
TASTING NOTES
Rich, almost heavy, with spice, vanilla and orange-blossom aromas. Honey, pineapple, tangerine, nutmeg and dates on the palate; extremely pleasurable to drink. Hint of ginger on the finish.
FOOD PAIRING
Excellent with blue cheese or foie gras. Lemon-meringue would also be an excellent pairing.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
An unusual year which has produced luscious, full-bodied Sauternes wines.
