ABOUT THE SPIRIT
In 1782 Walter Teeling set up a small distillery on Marrowbone Lane, in heart of the Liberties district of Dublin. The perfect storm of Prohibition in the USA and the Irish Civil War forced it to close in the early 1900s. In 1987, his descendant, John Teeling, reopened the Cooley Distillery in County Louth, a bright spot of regeneration in an Irish Whiskey industry stunted by over-consolidation and declining markets. The distillery produces both malt and grain whiskeys, in a variety of styles. In 2015, the current generation, Jack and Stephen Teeling, opened the first new distillery in Dublin in over 125 years, a stone’s throw from the original.

TASTING NOTES
Full-bodied; malt and sherry characters mingle beautifully, with dried fruit, roasted nut, dark chocolate, fig and raisin on the aromas. The palate is broad and rounded, with cooked fruit, cloves, cinnamon and caramel, and a dried pear character on the finish. Rich and full of flavour; this is a splendid whiskey.

FOOD PAIRING
Punchy enough to be enjoyed on the rocks, although some subtlety might be lost. We suggest enjoying this neat, perhaps with a drop of water; a meal all on its own.

FRIARWOOD SAYS
Named for a prominent Dublin family who presided, as the Earls of Meath, over Dublin. Limited release of 10 000 bottles.
