2021 Tres Palacios, Gran Reserve Chardonnay
Regular price £16.00 Save £-16.00ABOUT THE WINE
The 'Tres Palacios' winery is a family business, founded in 1996 by Don Patricio Palacios and his wife, Maria Inés Covarrubias. With patience—and much passion—they began their search for an area that had never before been used for winemaking.
They settled on the Cholqui sector of the Maipo Valley, 16 km (10 miles) from the city of Melipilla. The unique location of the vineyard protects them from extremes of heat and allows the grapes to ripen slowly and completely. In a setting reminiscent of the crater of a volcano, this terroir is unlike any other in Chile’s Central Valley.
TASTING NOTES
Crystalline gold in colour, this wine is fresh with aromas of tropical fruits such as ripe pineapple, mango and banana. This freshness and fruitiness continues on the palate, with a minerality that provide balance.
FOOD PAIRING
Excellent as an aperitif, or served with salads, lean fish, fresh cheese and white meats.

TASTING NOTES
The nose is a complex combination of apricot aromas with hints of white flowers and hazelnuts. Characterful and exceptionally well-balanced; on the palate it is almost delicate, with taut precision and chalky minerality. Slow fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 20% new, followed by lees-ageing with regular batonnage.
FOOD PAIRING
A superb, rich white Burgundy meant for confits, crab, clam chowder, chicken escalope and creamy leek soup.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
From a unique site, high on the slopes of the Roche de Vergisson, on white limestone soils. The east winds imbue this wine with the fresh, mineral character which balances the hefty flavours derived from lees-stirring (batonnage) and barrel-age. This is Pouilly-Fuissé at its finest.

TASTING NOTES

The nose unveils a sophisticated medley of ripe stone fruit, touched with nuances of blooming white flowers and toasty hazelnuts. On the palate, it is a symphony of balance and subtlety, combining a graceful minerality with a refined structure. The wine undergoes a slow fermentation in French oak barrels, with 20% new, followed by lees-ageing complemented by regular batonnage.
FOOD PAIRING
A gastronomic delight, this wine partners beautifully with a pan-seared sea bass served with a creamy leek fondue or a slow-roasted chicken with hazelnut and herb stuffing. An artisanal goat cheese tart with a salad of fresh greens, topped with candied walnuts, also makes for a harmonious pairing. Standalone, it serves as an enchanting aperitif that sets a sophisticated tone for any gathering.
FRIARWOOD SAYS
La Maréchaude, positioned at the northern edge of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, is famed for producing Chardonnay of distinct elegance and finesse. The vineyard's unique location on the slopes of the Roche de Vergisson and white limestone soils imbue the wine with a refreshing mineral character, beautifully offsetting the richness derived from lees-stirring and barrel ageing. This is a stellar expression of Pouilly-Fuissé's potential.
