For anyone looking for exciting new wines from Europe, Spain has to be at the top of the list. With over six hundred different grape varieties, the most land under vine in the world and a technological revolution in its approach to winemaking, Spain is not just about Rioja.

Yet even in that most established of regions as Rioja, there has been a transformation in style as a new generation of winemakers come to the fore.

Gone are the deeply coloured, tannic, muscular, heavily oaked Riojas of the past. New state-of-the-art producers are using the full arsenal of high-tech innovations to create rounded, harmonious, fruit driven wines.
