DOMAINE FERRATON
Founded in 1946 by Jean Ferraton, this Estate is based in Tain, the heartland of Hermitage.
Since 1994, the Estate has been taken over by Samuel, the grandson. In 1998, Samuel formed a partnership with the Chapoutier establishment. With this has come new expertise and know how, including biodynamic vine-growing practices in the vineyards and quality control. This means two obvious things: more intensive labour in the vineyard and more investment in the winery.
Biodynamic
Biodynamic viticulture does not use the herbicides or pesticides employed in conventional grape growing. By respecting the soil as a living element, it nurtures the vines, imbuing them with the mineral and organic trace elements that are such a rich part of it. Biodynamic viticulture also takes into consideration the pattern of lunar and cosmic rhythms. The soil is seen not simply as a support for vine growing, but as an organism in its own right.

This is starting to drink very well. Powerful as expected, liquorice and coffee beans
dominate the nose, the palate is well balanced, complex and lingers with ripe
blackberries and mineral notes.
