Valle Andino Reserva Especial, Chardonnay 2009/10

PRODUCER NOTES:
I
n 1993, Valle Andino wines started to be produced by the Viñedos Terranoble in the Maule Valley, the largest wine-producing region in Chile, with a tradition that dates as far back as the 17th century. The first harvest took place in 1994, with the resulting wines being immediately recognized for their quality and nobility. Today, Valle Andino wines are made from vineyards located in Colchagua, Casablanca and Maule valleys with a total surface of 360 ha.
Casablanca Valley is the most well known valley for white grape varieties in Chile. A medium-low temperature during summer season, fresh winds and morning fog which come from the Pacific Ocean every day, allow the perfect maturity of aroma and flavors in this variety. At the present time, almost the 80% planted corresponds to the Chardonnay variety.

WINEMAKING:
50% of the grapes were destemmed, crushed and cooled before being pressed. In the remaining 50%, the whole clusters were pressed. Afterwards, the process was followed by 24 hrs. Then, each juice was fermented at 15ºC and a small part of the juice was aged in new American and French oak barrels for three months. Finally, the total volume of wine was blended and kept for 2 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
