CHATEAU MONTROSE – 2eme CRU CLASSE
The name means ‘rose coloured hill’, and this, the most recently planted cru classes was formerly part of Calon Segur.
Traditional methods are still in place, much beloved by the Charmolue family who still own and maintain the estate. Montrose has seen a huge increase in quality since the 1980s and this estate is now exceptionally well respected.
Up until the 80s, Montrose was fairly austere and tannic meaning that at least 10-15 year aging was necessary for the wine to be approachable, but the style has since changed and the wines are now drinkable at an earlier stage than in previous vintages.
