Friarwood

The Cuvelier family arrived at Leoville Poyferre in 1920, and since then have invested an enormous amount in the Chateau, including the construction of a new winery in the late 1990’s, and a good deal of planting (the average age of the vines is 20 years) – allowing them to plant more Cabernet Sauvignon, to make the wine more structured and long lived. Michel Rolland has been consultant here since 1994.

The estate has enjoyed something of a cult status since the late 19^th century – clearly the sensual charm of the wine is enduring.
