Winter Wine Courses in London

Release date: 28 October 2004

Friarwood are pleased to announce our Winter Wine Courses for 2004. These educational tastings are designed to be both insightful as well as informal without any of the stuffiness or snobbery that usually accompanies fine wine tastings. We will be using the best of our broad portfolio of wines to demonstrate the various points at each session. The wines will be accompanied by a simple buffet of cheeses, olives and breads.

Introduction to Bordeaux. Tuesday 2nd November 2004 - £30
Bordeaux produces some 850 million bottles of wine a year, 25% of all AOC wine in France. This course is designed to give an overview of the wine region as a whole as well as investigating the classic left and right banks of the Gironde and also some of the more interesting wines emerging from the petit chateaux of Bourg and Blaye.

Wines of Italy. Tuesday 16th November 2004 - £40
Italy now produces some of the most varied wines in the world: from the unique native grape varieties such as Trebbiano and Nero d’Avola to the international varieties of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, made famous by the ‘Super Tuscans’. A fascinating course in which we try and give an overview of all the exciting things happening in Italian wine making, from the traditional to the innovative.

Introduction to Tasting. Tuesday 23rd November 2004 - £25
A repeat of our introductory session during which we will run through the basics of tasting wine and what it is that affects the style and flavour of wines. We shall also look into what it is that differentiates a wine of quality and how to spot wine faults. A great session which will provide a sound basis for the further enjoyment of wine.

Wine with Food. Tuesday 30th November 2004 - £40
One of our most popular courses in which we look at the matching of food and wine. We will discuss the main principles of food and wine matching whilst demonstrating with classics such as Sauternes and foie gras, Beaujolais and charcuterie and sweet wine with blue cheese. This session also looks at more difficult pairings as what wines to choose with Indian and Chinese cuisine.

Cru Classe Bordeaux. Tuesday 14th December - £50
A real treat to warm the winter nights where we investigate the five classified growths of the Medoc and also look at the Left and Right banks of the Gironde. A dedicated Bordeaux evening during which we hope to not only look at the wines themselves but discuss the En Primeur market, the fluctuation in Bordeaux prices and the future of the Bordeaux region.

Tastings may be booked individually or as a course. Equally, we are always delighted to cater for group bookings. Six or more tastings booked together attract a 10% discount.
